The 2025-2026 OITP Year in Review outlines the key activities and outputs of a busy year in which we laid the groundwork for system transformation.

We made great strides this year to bring the Ontario Intensive Treatment Pathway (OITP) closer to fruition as we developed unprecedented sector tools and launched work to bring clarity and support to Ontario’s child and youth mental health providers. In alignment with the Ontario Government’s Roadmap to Wellness and Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the vision of the OITP began to take shape.

The report highlights the OITP’s accomplishments towards creating greater system clarity and strengthening the child and youth mental health sector, including:

  • Hosting the first OITP Symposium, which engaged 350 participants—from the CYMH sector, other affiliated sectors, and youth and families with lived experience—in learning and discussions to strengthen the system
  • Developing an evidence-based provincial clinical model and operational standards to support clarity and ensure consistency across live-in treatment
  • Building foundational knowledge to identify the Clinical Characteristics of children and youth to be served by the OITP
  • Sharing a Readiness Assessment with CYMH agencies to help them identify their strengths and areas for growth in preparation for the system transformation
  • Launching work to develop a sector-wide Health Human Resources strategy to augment the organizational-level efforts already underway across the province.

The report also shares information about:

  • The Basket Carriers, the committee of representatives from Indigenous-led service providers from across the province that is leading the parallel Indigenous-led process to ensure Indigenous voices are heard, the distinctions and culture of the communities are respected, and the structural inequities that have contributed to service gaps are addressed
  • The OITP’s advisory committees and how they bring their own unique lenses to the various initiatives of the OITP
  • What the sector can expect in the next year as the OITP moves from a focus on Readiness to supporting Implementation.

Land acknowledgement

The OITP operates across Ontario on traditional, unceded and unsurrendered territories of Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit). Our presence in this territory is part of a painful legacy of child welfare that caused generational harm in Indigenous communities. We seek to honour our hosts by building culturally competent and consistent approaches into the intensive mental health treatment system, and work towards decolonization, learning and healing.
